A few years ago I made these cute and simple gumdrop pumpkins with my boys. Since Halloween is just a few days away, I thought I would revive this fun little activity on the blog.
They are so simple to make - - just take two orange wedge candies, trim down the crescent shaped side so that it is straight and all the sugar is trimmed off, then place those sticky sides together. Cut a small green gumdrop into fourths to be used as the stem, and press it into the middle of the pumpkin.
These are so simple and hardly any mess, plus the kids will love this activity.
I didn't want my boys eating too many of these cute gumdrop pumpkins, so we dropped off a few to some of our favorite people to say Happy Halloween!!

Surprise! I am actually making a visit to my lonely little blog, to share a quick tip on organizing homework supplies.
We are still in our little rental property while our house is being built. With school starting this week, I needed to come up with something that would house our homework supplies without taking up much space. As I was walking through Ikea, I happened upon this great little box. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be a great place to keep all our school supplies organized and easy to grab when it is time for homework, and easy to put away when homework is done. I picked it up, took it home and filled it with the school supplies I had just purchased. It easily houses tons of sharpened pencils, scissors (with room for more), pencil sharpeners and erasers, glue sticks and two boxes of crayons. I also love that is has a lid on a hinge that can be easily opened when needed and then snapped shut when done, and it is attached, so it won't get separated from the box - which believe me was bound to happen sooner or later in this house.
When I was filling the box, my son that is going into second grade came out and saw the box full of fresh, new school supplies. I explained that it is our new box to pull out for homework time and he said to me. "Wow mom, I am actually looking forward to homework now." I wish I could say I was looking forward to helping with all that homework, but I do love all these new school supplies gathered together in a simple, organized way.

The other day, my sister mentioned that it had been a long time since I had posted anything on this blog. I told her it is because I have not had time or space to do anything domestic in recent months. I miss it terribly. We are still living in our small rental property and after months of looking for the right house and neighborhood and being unsuccessful, we finally decided we would have to build. It is a long process to start building, so we have been wrapped up in finding a lot and home design we liked, getting bids from contractors, and financing yuckiness. Finally, things are underway!! We are building on the lot pictured above and the picture below shows recent progress.
I know if doesn't look like much, but this is a beautiful sight to me. There is finally a teeny tiny light at the end of this very long tunnel. I will try to be a little better about blogging now that the house is finally under construction. At the very least, I will be able to share progress on the build. I miss this blog of mine. It will be nice to give it some attention again.
