Hugs and Kisses Quilt

Remember the pink project I promised to share soon?  Well, this is it.  A very pink quilt for Valentine's Day.

I had decided earlier, that this year I would like to use up a lot of my scraps and stashed fabric that has been sitting around before I buy anything new.  When I got looking through what I had, I noticed I had quite a bit of pink and decided that if I am ever going to have an excuse to make a pink quilt - a valentine quilt would be it.  And, since we don't do any decorating for Valentine's Day at our boy-filled house, I figure a little quilt in honor of the holiday was definitely in order.

So, with the rationalization out of the way, I decided to use this quilt as inspiration.  Originally, I did not want to put borders on the quilt, but I didn't have enough pink and red fabric to make it large enough to be throw size, so I added some white borders with a little scrappy border in-between.

I quilted it with a soft zig zag stitch on my machine and I really like how the quilting turned out. I think the quilt is cute - a little too pink for me - but for a quilt that will only be out for about one month of the year, it will be a nice change.

Patching Jeans

Just a few days ago I was thinking to myself, in amazement, how I could not believe that it was already January and I have not had to do a single repair to my boys jeans yet.  Well, I must have jinxed myself because in the last two days, three pairs of jeans materialized with holes in the knees.

Luckily, a few minutes at the sewing machine and this method have salvaged these jeans and allowed several more months of wear.

After that, the little boys and I made an after school snack for the big boys.

Whole wheat oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.  Yum!!

I've been working on . . .

I have been working on a little something that involves a color that you will rarely see on this blog. . .

Pink, pink and lots of pink.  I finally came up with an excuse to use up most of my pink scraps, and can't wait to get this project crossed off my list.  I will share soon - I promise.

Quilt for Son #2

A few days ago, son #2 was baptized into our church.  It was a special day that I wanted him to always remember, so, I made him a special quilt and gave it to him on his big day.

This is the Pow Wow quilt pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew.  I made it in throw size, and I will be honest - - I found it rather boring to make.  You sew a lot of HSTs for this quilt, so if you love to sew them, then you will love, love, love making this quilt.  If not, you will probably find it a bit boring to piece, as I did.  Having said that I love, love, love this quilt.  It turned out soooooo cute and perfect for an eight-year-old boy.  I am so glad I made it, and I would do it again - boring to piece or not.

I backed it with soft chevron white minky.  I thought it was a nice reflection of the arrow pattern on the front.

I quilted it in vertical straight lines on my machine, and I couldn't be happier with the end result.

Awhile ago, we made some changes to my boys' bathroom.  Overall, I have been so happy with the changes, with the exception of the shower curtain.  The only thing I liked about it was that the colors were right, other than that, there was something about it that bugged me every time I walked in the room.

The other day, I ran onto this new shower curtain and had to have it.  It is much more my style.  Yes - definitely better.

A Quilt and an Explanation

My baby boy - who is now two years old, has outgrown his cute baby quilt and was in need of a new one.  So, for Christmas, I whipped this one up.

It is a throw sized quilt and I used the Skipping Squares quilt pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew. ( I know, I totally love her patterns - - in fact, I just finished another one that I will be sharing soon.)  It is quilted in horizontal straight lines and I bound it with a two-fabric binding.

We still love that cute little baby quilt, but this one is quickly becoming a new favorite.

Now - for the explanation.  .  .

You may have noticed that I have been ignoring this poor little blog of mine lately. The truth of the matter is, that I was sick, sick, sick for six weeks from the beginning of November until mid December, when I finally had to admit that I needed to go see a doctor.  A round of antibiotics later, I finally started to get better, but all of my time had to be spent getting ready for Christmas, so the blog continued to be on the back burner.

Now, I am back and I hope to be posting regularly again.  So excited!!
