The start of an HST Sampler Quilt

Not too long ago, I decided to start working on an HST sampler quilt.  If you remember, I made my son a quilt that required sewing a lot of HST's.  While I was making of all those HST's, I used Allison's scrap saver tip and was left with all of these cute little HST blocks just waiting to be made into another quilt, so a sampler quilt it is.

This week is the week that the work begins.  Each of these squares are only 2 1/2" by 2 1/2", so I will need to put 16 of these little babies together in order to complete one sampler block.   The task seems a little daunting to me.  In order to have the courage to tackle it, I plan to complete one block a week, until I have enough for at least a throw-sized quilt.

The block I completed this week contains four pinwheels.

I know it is not perfect.  I refuse to allow myself to be too much of a perfectionist with this quilt - so no nit-picking please. : )

Block #1 - Done!  Now only about 4 million more little HST's to sew together to complete this sampler quilt.  It should be fun!!

Shower Supplies Basket

While organizing my bathroom last week, I finally got around to taking two minutes to do something I have been meaning to do for months. Now this is not a new, exciting, or innovative idea folks, but I am so proud of myself for stopping my procrastinating and getting around to this, that I just have to document it.

I bathe my two little boys in the master bathroom bathtub, and of course, they like to spend a little time playing in there after I have scrubbed them down.  Since I didn't want them dumping my products down the drain, or getting ahold of my razor, I found I was always having to gather everything up individually and remove it before I bathed them and then of course I had to replace everything when I wanted to use the tub.  This only took a couple of minutes, but still, it was annoying.

So, finally, I corralled everything into a basket that I can remove and replace as needed with one motion.

 So. Much. Better.

Organization Styles

With all the people around blogland talking about 40 bags in 40 days, it has motivated me to take some time to do some organizing around my house.  While I was organizing my bathroom drawers, I thought a lot about organizational styles.  For me, I like everything categorized and containerized, so this is what my drawers look like. . .

My husband, on the other hand, is quite different.  For him, he feels he is the picture of organization if all of his bathroom items end up in the same drawer. Early in our marriage, I tried to put everything neatly into containers according to their respective uses, but I soon found that the little baskets were just floating around, taking up space in the drawer, because he was never, ever, going to take the time to put the items back into the specific little homes that I had given them.  To try to change my husband's thinking and feelings on this is just an exercise in futility, and to try to force him to keep his things like I would keep them would only result in a lot of contention and resentment.  So, many years ago, I decided that if all his stuff ends up in his bathroom drawer and it can be shut away, then I am fine with that, so this is what his bathroom drawer looks like (after a little straightening up.)

See - - it is all okay and life goes on even if his drawer is not containerized properly in my eyes. ;)
